US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the United States had postponed an attack on Iran planned for Tuesday at the request of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The head of the White House wants to give space for “serious negotiations” writes TASR.
“The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Sani, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad bin Salman, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, have asked me to postpone our planned military attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was scheduled for tomorrow, as serious negotiations are currently underway and, in their view, as great leaders and allies, an agreement will be reached that will be very acceptable to the United States of America as well as to all countries on the Middle East and beyond,” wrote Trump on the social network Truth Social.
According to Trump, the agreement will not include “no nuclear weapons for Iran”. Therefore, out of respect for the above-mentioned leaders, he ordered American officials, including Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, to postpone Tuesday’s planned attacks. However, if no agreement is reached, he asks them to be ready to renew the strikes.
Washington and Tehran announced a cease-fire last month, but have not reached a permanent peace deal. Talks brokered by Pakistan have been officially suspended since Iran and the US rejected each other’s proposals. On Sunday, on his social network Truth Social, Trump called on Iran to make a peace deal with the United States or face destruction. He made this statement shortly after a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
