The town of Farelos, in the municipality of Alcoutim, hosted the Lamb and Pastoral Fair, an initiative that brought together hundreds of visitors on the 15th and 16th of May, in an environment marked by the appreciation of rural traditions, gastronomy and endogenous products from the territory.
For two days, the village gained a different dynamic, with traditional music, demonstrations related to pastoralism, typical gastronomy and moments of conviviality between inhabitants and visitors.

According to the organization, the event once again established itself as “one of the moments to celebrate the rural roots of the territory”.
Seminar debated the future of rural territories
The program kicked off in Giões with the seminar “Agro-food Social Economy: Cooperation, Innovation and Territory”, which brought together institutional representatives, technicians and entities linked to rural development and the agri-food sector.
The meeting promoted reflection on the challenges of low-density territories and the importance of cross-border cooperation between Portugal and Spain.
After the seminar, the initiative continued with moments dedicated to gastronomy and traditional knowledge, including a lunch tasting of local products prepared by the Feito no Zambujal project and an artisanal demonstration of fresh cheese making hosted by Recanto d’Aldeia.
Pastoralism, gastronomy and tradition attracted hundreds of visitors
On May 16th, Farelos received hundreds of people throughout a day marked by sheep exhibitions, manual and mechanical shearing demonstrations, displays of regional products and cultural and musical entertainment.

The strong participation registered positively surprised the organization, confirming the growing interest in events linked to traditions, local products and the identity of the Algarve interior.
The organization considers that the fair reinforced the importance of preserving traditions and valuing the territory’s rural identity.
AGROSOCIAL project supports dynamization of the territory
The Lamb and Pastoral Fair is promoted by the – Association for the Development of Baixo Guadiana, within the scope of the AGROSOCIAL project.
The initiative had the collaboration of the Associação dos Amigos dos Farelos and Clarines and the institutional support of the Alcoutim City Council and the Giões Parish Council.
According to those responsible, this partnership aims to reinforce “the joint commitment to boosting local economies and valuing the territory’s endogenous resources”.
The AGROSOCIAL project aims to create a social economy ecosystem in the agri-food sector, promoting young entrepreneurship and the revitalization of cooperation territories between Portugal and Spain.
