An armed man shot bystanders at a bus station in the Egyptian city of Abnub. He took the lives of eight people before being neutralized by the police. TASR informs about this according to the Tuesday report of the DPA agency.
Five other people were injured in the incident in the city of Abnoub in Asyut province, about 300 kilometers south of the capital Cairo, according to the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior.
Based on available information, the deadly incident occurred on Monday evening local time, when an assailant opened fire on passers-by at a local bus station. The security forces subsequently tracked him down on agricultural land, where the perpetrator was killed in a shootout with the police.
According to the ministry and the first results of the investigation, the attacker suffered from psychological problems for a long time and was treated in a psychiatric hospital in Cairo.
