2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner returned home to Tehran after 18 days hospitalized
Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian who won the 2023 Nobel Peace Prizewas released from the hospital and returned home to Tehran, after being released on bail, her foundation announced this Monday (18).
Sources warned of the risks Mohammadi would face if returned to prison, as she suffers from heart problems and her health deteriorated drastically after his last arrest in December.
Mohammadi was released on Sundayafter 18 days of hospitalization in Zanyan, where she was imprisoned, and later in Tehran, her foundation said in a statement.
Tests carried out at the hospital confirmed that his heart problem and hypertension are directly linked to “prolonged and severe psychological pressures, chronic anxiety and intense environmental stress”, the foundation said, adding that Mohammadi must not return to prison “under any circumstances”.
“His recovery requires rigorous medical monitoring outside the prison walls,” said his daughter, Kiana Rahmani. “Returning her to prison is a death sentence,” he added.
“We must guarantee her freedom, that all unfounded charges against her are definitively dropped and that the persecution ceases,” he said.
Kiana, along with her twin brother Ali, lives in Paris and hasn’t seen her mother in over a decade.
