Reform of the Court of Auditors generates controversy and could be an “open door to corruption”

It is a top-to-bottom restructuring of the Court of Auditors, which includes salary cuts for judges and other employees.

The government wants to end the Court of Auditors’ prior approval for contracts worth up to 10 million euros. The director general of the public accounts control court herself admits that it is an open door for corruption.

A blow to previous visas led the president of the Court of Auditors to speak out publicly, twice, about the serious risks of the proposal.

The largest opposition party in Parliament has already warned that it will not embark on this reform.

The Court of Auditors published a video on its website, lasting almost two and a half minutes, explaining what is at stake in the State Reform minister’s plan.

Criticized by the Frente Cívica association and without a guaranteed majority in Parliament, the proposed law seems to have its days numbered.
