Danko admitted his shock: Unless Smer and Hlas support it, I will say that…

SNS Chairman Andrej Danko once again called on coalition partners from Smer-SD and Hlas-SD to support the National Council’s proposal to increase pensions for seniors over 90 years of age. At a press conference on Thursday, he expressed shock and indignation that Smer-SD and Hlas-SD did not support this proposal in the committees. If they do not support it even in the second reading, then according to Danko, they do not have social feelings. Despite the coalition agreement, he wants to try to reach opposition politicians.

  • Andrej Danko asks the coalition partners to support the increase in pensions for the over-90s.
  • According to Danko, the minimum pension would be five hundred and thirty-four euros if the machine were kept.
  • The current amount of the minimum pension in Slovakia is only four hundred and twelve euros.
  • The SNS proposes to increase the pensions of almost twenty-six thousand senior citizens over the age of ninety.
  • Danko claims that increasing pensions would cost fifty to eighty million euros.

“In 2019, the SNS presented a pension machine, which means that the minimum pensions were raised every year as a percentage, and if the automatic system were maintained as we set it, now the minimum pension would be at the level of 534 euros. It would be 33% of the average wage in the economy,” said Danko. According to him, since the automatic was abolished by previous governments, the minimum pension is currently 412 euros.

By an amendment to the Act on Social Insurance, which is in the second reading in the NR SR, the SNS proposes to increase the pension for almost 26,000 seniors over 90 to 824 euros.

“I am shocked by the social approach of the parties Smer-SD and Hlas-SD, which initially welcomed this law,” Danko criticized them for not supporting the proposal to increase pensions for seniors over 90 in the committees. “This cynical approach of Smer-SD and Hlas-SD, that they do not want to raise the pensions of at least 26,000 pensioners to the level of 824 euros, is shocking to me.” pointed out the president of the SNS.

Danko thinks that the pension for these seniors should be at the level of at least 820 euros, which, according to him, would be provided by social services. “And unless Smer-SD and Hlas-SD support it, I will say loudly that they have no social feeling,” said Danko.

According to him, there is also a draft law on the re-introduction of the automatic minimum pension in the registry office of the NR SR, and in this case he understands the coalition colleagues in terms of budgetary responsibility. “It would again be in the hundreds of millions, but with these impacts that can be uncovered, we count the impacts at the level between 50 and 80 million euros. The state must have the courage and must have the effort to help those people.” said the president of the SNS. He claims that the state has the money for that, pointing to the profits of banks, power plants and gambling companies.
