Almost 60% of respondents give a negative rating to the performance of the Government of Montenegro. Carneiro also appears first in the confidence index for the position of prime minister.
One year after the 2025 legislative elections, the Socialist Party appears prominent in the leadership of voting intentions, according to the most recent Aximage barometer for .
The survey places the PS with 33.4% of respondents’ preferences, with the distribution of undecided respondents, almost ten points above the Democratic Alliance (AD), which drops to third place with 23.2%, in a technical tie with Chega, which collects 23.5%.
The results represent a expressive recovery of the socialists in relation to the legislative elections of May 2025. At the time, the PS, then led by Pedro Nuno Santos, obtained only 22.8% of the votes, which translated into a loss of 20 deputies and a drop to third place in Parliament.
In the opposite direction, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition registered a significant drop. After winning the legislative elections with 31.8%, the AD now loses 8.6 pointsfalling behind the PS and practically tied with Chega. The party led by André Ventura maintains a trajectory of moderate growth, rising seven tenths compared to last year’s electoral result.
The study also reinforces the consolidation of tripartism in the Portuguese political system, with PS, AD and Chega a concentrate more than 80% of voting intentions of the 505 respondents. Among the remaining parties, the Liberal Initiative appears with 6.3%, followed by Livre, with 4.7%, while the remaining political forces remain below the 3% barrier.
Regarding the Government’s actions, 58% give a negative rating and 20% of these consider performance “very bad”. On the other hand, only 33% give a positive rating.
José Luís Carneiro also appears as the favorite in the confidence of those interviewed, with 27% considering the socialist leader as the most suitable to be prime minister. André Ventura appears in second place, with 25%, followed by Luís Montenegro, with 24%.
More than two thirds disillusioned with the Government
Another barometer published this Friday, carried out by Intercampus for , reveals a growing weariness of the Government led by Luís Montenegro. According to the survey, 65.7% of respondents say they are disappointed with the Executive’s performance, considering it worse than they expected. Only 25.9% say that the Government exceeded their expectations.
On a political level, André Ventura continues to be seen by the majority of those interviewed as the main leader of the opposition in Portugal. THE Chega leader gathers 48.8% of responses, maintaining an advantage over the general secretary of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, who collected 31.2%. Even so, Carneiro significantly reduced the distance to Ventura in relation to the previous barometer, with the margin shortening from 30% to 18%.
Among the members of the Government, the Minister of Internal AdministrationLuís Neves, appears as the best rated, followed by the Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, and the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho.
In contrast, the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martinsis identified as the most fragile element of the Executive. The Minister of Labor, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho, also received a negative rating.
