Tragedy in Hungary: An explosion at the MOL chemical plant left one dead and seriously injured

A technical fault at the Hungarian MOL plant resulted in a tragic explosion. According to the preliminary findings of the investigators, a pyrogas pipeline exploded on the company’s premises. The incident resulted in one victim and several seriously injured employees.

An explosion occurred on Friday at the plant of the energy company MOL in Tiszaújvárosi, Eastern Hungary. This was announced on Facebook by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, according to whom the explosion claimed one victim and several were seriously injured, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.

The prime minister added that the minister responsible for energy István Kapitány and the general director of MOL Zsolt Hernádi traveled to Tiszaújváros.

On behalf of the government, Magyar expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

According to preliminary information, there was an explosion in the pyrogas pipeline on the premises of Mol Petrolkemia Zrt. The Regional Office of Civil Protection stated that the consequences of the explosion did not pose a threat to the public.
