Zurich/Freiburg – The day before the game against Austria, Germany achieved its first victory in the fifth game of the Ice Hockey World Cup. A double strike in the final minute of the second period to make it 4-0 decided the unequal Group A duel in Zurich, which Germany won against Hungary 6-2. It was therefore clear that Switzerland was guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals. Just like Finland, the newly promoted Great Britain suffered its fifth defeat in the tournament with a 4-0 win.
