China sends new aid package to Cuba amid growing US pressure

Cuba received 15,000 tons of rice donated by China at the port of Havana this Saturday (23), as part of a broader aid package aimed at bolstering the island’s food supply amid current economic challenges, according to the Cuban government.

At the aid reception ceremony were the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Oscar Perez Oliva-Fraga, together with Betsy Diaz Velazquez, head of MINCIN (Ministry of Internal Trade).

This first shipment is part of a total donation of 60 thousand tons of rice, which will gradually reach , the government said.

China has been sending rice donations since January, according to local media.

The country has been a key ally for Cuba, providing economic and humanitarian support as the Caribbean nation faces its worst economic crisis in decades, largely driven by tightening fuel exports to the island.
