US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted in New Delhi on Sunday that an agreement with Iran that would formally end the war in the Middle East could be announced within the day. As recalled by the AFP agency, which is referred to by TASR, the head of American diplomacy spoke about the possibility that the world will receive favorable news in the next few hours when he answered questions from journalists during his visit to India.
- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the imminent announcement of an agreement with Iran.
- Expectations are rising as Rubio on Saturday hinted at an almost done deal.
- The upcoming document is intended to address the security concerns of the United States in the Strait of Hormuz.
- The goal of the agreement is to limit Iran’s nuclear threat and stabilize the Middle East region.
- Donald Trump announced that the draft agreement is largely negotiated, but still not finalized.
Rubio already announced the impending agreement in a similar way on Saturday, but no official announcement was made in the end. The current statements thus increase expectations that the talks between Washington, Tehran and other actors are nearing their conclusion, but the minister did not specify the specific date for the publication of the agreement.
Key Hormuz
The head of American diplomacy, who is on his first business trip to India, said that the document being prepared should respond to the security concerns of the United States regarding the Strait of Hormuz. It has been largely blocked by Iran in response to attacks by the US and Israel, which has a major impact on global energy routes.
At the same time, Rubio emphasized that the new agreement should start a broader process towards the White House’s goal – a situation where the international community does not have to worry about an Iranian nuclear weapon. According to him, it would not only be a technical solution to the crisis in the strait, but a step in the broader security architecture of the region.
Negotiations with Tehran
Rubio was responding to a statement on Saturday by US President Donald Trump, who said that the draft agreement, which also includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, is “largely” settled. Trump indicated that the text is practically ready and the final details remain to be worked out between the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran and other countries involved.
At the same time, the President informed that the finalization of the document is still pending, which indicates ongoing negotiations on the details. He published this information on his social platform Truth Social, without specifying specific dates or details about the content of the agreement.
