Russian shelling hit Kiev and its region last night, causing four deaths and more than 60 injuries
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this Sunday accused Russia of having used a nuclear-capable Orechnik intermediate-range missile against Ukraine during massive and deadly nighttime bombings.
“Three Russian missiles against a water supply infrastructure, a burned market, dozens of damaged residential buildings, several regular schools, and he [Presidente russo, Vladimir Putin] launched his Orechnik against Bila Tserkva. They are really crazy,” declared Zelensky in a Telegram message.
This would have been the third time that the missile, capable of carrying nuclear or conventional warheads, was used in Ukraine.
Intense Russian bombings hit Kiev and its region last night, causing four deaths and more than 60 injuries, local authorities reported.
The toll of victims of nighttime bombings amounted to two dead and 56 injured in the capital, which was “hard hit”, indicated the Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, on Telegram.
Two other people were killed in the capital region and nine were injured, including a child under the age of 1, said the head of the regional administration, Mykola Kalachnyk.
According to Vitali Klitschko, “rescue teams continue to remove the rubble” and “Kiev’s health centers operate normally and provide full assistance to the capital’s inhabitants”.
However, the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement that in this bombing, which had the Ukrainian capital as the main target, Russia used more than 600 drones and missiles of various types.
A total of 549 enemy drones were shot down and 55 Russian missiles intercepted in this attack that had Kiev as its “main target”, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
The Ukrainian military stated that Russia used, among others, 54 cruise missiles and more than 30 ballistic missiles.
“According to provisional data, there were impacts from 16 missiles and 51 drones in 54 points across the country, as well as the remains of downed drones in 54 locations,” according to the Air Force statement.
According to previous information from The Kyiv Independent, which cited Internet groups dedicated to observing and analyzing the conflict, Russia used around 50 missiles and up to 700 drones against Ukrainian territory in this attack, but the country’s capital was the main target of “one of the biggest attacks in the last year”.
