Another man convicted of participating in anti-government protests was executed in Iran. They labeled him as the armed leader of the riots.
Iran has executed another man convicted on charges related to anti-government protests earlier this year, state media reported on Monday. TASR writes about it according to Sky News and AFP.
“Abbas Akbarí was executed by hanging this morning,” the justice portal Mízán reported.
Riot charges
According to state media, he played a “significant role” in attacks on government offices and security and health centers during the unrest. Mizan described him as “one of the armed leaders” during the protests in Isfahan province.
Akbari’s charges included “moharebeh” (enmity against God) and willful destruction of public property “with intent to oppose the system, to disturb public order and security, and to assemble and associate against national security.”
Executions related to protests
In Iran, they have already executed several people convicted in connection with the nationwide protests at the beginning of the year. According to human rights organizations including Amnesty International, Iran is the country with the highest number of executions in the world after China.
