Israeli offensive on 10 locations resulted in the deaths of civilians; Hezbollah links truce to negotiations between US and Iran for regional agreement
The Israeli Army carried out new bombings in Lebanon this Monday (May 25, 2026). The offensive takes place despite the ceasefire in force since April 17. The Israeli military issued immediate evacuation orders for residents of 10 villages in the south of the country and the city of Tire (Tyre), recognized as a World Heritage Site by the UN (United Nations). The information is from AFP.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, the action is a response to violations of the truce by Hezbollah. Arabic-language military spokesman Colonel Avichay Adraee said the Army was obliged to “act with force.” Residents were advised to move to open areas located at least 1 km from the targets on suspicion of links to the extremist group.
On Sunday (May 24, 2026), southern and eastern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of 11 people in Sir al-Gharbiyeh. Among the victims were 6 women and a child. The Lebanese Ministry of Health classified the episode as a “massacre”. In Nabatieh, a Civil Defense installation was destroyed overnight.
According to UNESCO, the UN body for education, science and culture, the city of Tire is located on the south coast of Lebanon, 83 km from Beirut. It was an important Phoenician city that dominated maritime routes and founded colonies such as Cádiz and Carthage. According to tradition, it was there that the purple pigment was discovered.
US–IRAN NEGOTIATIONS
Hezbollah leaders linked the end of hostilities to talks between Washington and Tehran. Representative Hassan Fadlallah said Iran made a regional agreement conditional on ending the war in Lebanon. The group’s leader, Naim Qassem, said he hoped the country would be included in a total cessation of hostilities.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized Hezbollah’s actions. According to him, the group tries “drag Lebanon back into chaos and destruction”.
Recently, Lebanese authorities began direct talks with Israel under American mediation. The objective is to maintain a negotiation channel separate from negotiations with Iran and prevent the country from becoming “exchange currency”.
The ceasefire agreement announced by Washington provides that Israel can act against attacks “planned, imminent or ongoing”. Israeli soldiers remain on a “yellow line” located about 10 km from Lebanon’s southern border. Hezbollah also maintained military actions, including rocket fire at Israeli troops in Lebanese territory.
