official, denied the scenarios of the new Supreme Leader being seriously injured during the US-Israeli strikes on his first day. The official said Mojtaba’s injuries – sustained in the attack that killed his father and former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei – were “minor”.
Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, succeeded his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28. He has not appeared in public since stepping down from office on March 8 and is limited to releasing written statements.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in April that he was “wounded and probably disfigured”.
What did the representative of the Ministry of Health say?
Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour revealed that Mojtaba Khamenei was admitted to a hospital at 1:00 p.m. on February 28 and taken “to an operating room, along with many other wounded.”
“Apart from the superficial injuries to the face, head and legs, which did not require any amputation or cause complications, there was nothing serious,” the spokesman added, according to the Ilna news agency. “As a doctor, I think it wasn’t serious injuries, it didn’t require any surgery, just a couple of stitches,” he said. In fact, Mojtaba Khamenei, who was observing Ramadan, refused to eat food until breaking his fast at night, “which shows that he was in good health,” Kermanpour commented.
The Supreme Leader was discharged on March 1.
On May 7, Iranian President Massoud Pezheskian said he met with him for two and a half hours. Three days later, state television reported that the head of Iran’s armed forces, Ali Abdullahi, also met with Khamenei who gave “new instructions” to continue military operations.
