Former minister said that 3 candidacies could divide votes and reduce the chances of electing two seats in São Paulo
Former Minister of Planning and Budget (PSB) stated, on Monday (May 25, 2026), that its ticket will have 2 candidates for the Senate and was mistaken about preferring the federal deputy (Network) or (PSB). The statement was given in an interview with journalists at the event promoted by Rights Já! Forum for Democracy, in São Paulo.
“I can guarantee you the following, there will be 3 pre-candidates and, therefore, 2 candidates for the Senate from the progressive camp. There will be no chance of us launching 3 candidates in this dispute, because we know it is a difficult election and we want to work to elect 2 candidates”, said Tebet.
A published, on Monday morning (May 25th), that the PSB was irritated by the PT’s possible delay in defining the 2 pre-candidates for the Senate and was considering launching Tebet and França, even without an agreement. According to the former minister, this would divide the votes and reduce the chance of electing two seats in São Paulo.
“There are 2 votes, if we only have 2 votes, 2 candidates in the progressive field, because vote for one, vote for the other. Again, making it very clear, I don’t know who will run as a pre-candidate, as my partner, this is a decision that we will take forward, I’m taking this care because I have the pre-candidate of my party who is Márcio França, otherwise we talk a lot about one and don’t talk about the other, I don’t have a preference, my preference is to have a broad front”, said Tebet.
Survey of Paraná Pesquisas on May 21 it showed that Marina Silva and Simone Tebet lead the race for the Senate in São Paulo, with 36.6% and 34.3% of voting intentions, respectively.
