American President Donald Trump told reporters that an agreement could still be reached, but left a warning that if this does not happen, “we will simply have to finish the job”.
These bombings mark the second US offensive on Iranian territory in the space of a week. On Monday, Washington claimed to have carried out “self-defense attacks” in southern Iran against several targets, including missile launch sites and Iranian vessels attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Although Trump expressed optimism over the weekend, saying that a peace deal with Iran was “largely negotiated“, the North American president adopted a more cautious tone at this Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting, admitting that the US “are not satisfied“.
Trump said Tehran remains “very committed” in reaching an understanding to end the conflict, but added that “so far it has not been possible”, reiterating Washington’s willingness to resume attacks if an agreement is not reached.
The president’s statements came after Iranian state television released what it claims were details of a draft agreement, which would include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz ea withdrawal of US forces of the region.
