President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reacted vehemently this Friday to the United States government’s decision to declare the criminal factions Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV) as international terrorist organizations, stating that Brazil does not accept being treated as a ‘kid’.
At a ceremony announcing Petrobras’ investments in Sergipe, Lula stated that, if the USA wants to help fight organized crime, they must send Brazilian criminals who live on North American soil to Brazil.
‘Do you want to fight organized crime? Give me our (criminals) who are there in the United States. We don’t accept being treated like kids, we don’t accept being treated as if we were a republic’, said Lula.
‘I spent three hours with (US President Donald) Trump and handed him four documents, one of them on combating organized crime. Mr. Marco Rubio wasn’t there, possibly because he was prepared to help a son of a Bolsonarista who is a candidate for election in this country and who is not ashamed to betray our homeland and go to the United States to ask for American intervention in Brazil, he added.
On Thursday night, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the designation of PCC and CV as international terrorist organizations as of June 5. The announcement was made days after Flávio Bolsonaro met in Washington with Trump and Rubio himself. At the time, the senator said he asked Trump for the two factions to be classified by the US as terrorists.
