Leaders such as Javier Milei, from Argentina, and pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro congratulated Abelardo de La Espriella for going to the 2nd round
Leaders of the Latin American right celebrated the arrival of (Defensores de la Patria) in the 2nd round of from Colombia. The right-wing candidate won 43.74% of the votes on Sunday (May 31, 2026) and will face the government candidate (Historic Pact, left), which registered 40.90%, on June 21st.
(Freedom Advances), from Argentina, (Republican Party), of Chile, and (National Democratic Action), from Ecuador, are among the presidents who congratulated De La Espriella.
In addition to them, pre-candidate for President and senator (PL-RJ), and leader of the Venezuelan opposition who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025, expressed support for the Colombian.
Milei congratulated the candidate and voters. “This result reflects the desire for freedom and progress of the Colombian people, and an expressed desire to say enough is enough to the failed socialist model that has caused so much damage to our region, and to Colombia in particular, in the last 4 years”, he declared.
Kast wished the Colombian success in the 2nd round and said that “A freer and safer Colombia is good news for the entire region”.
In his publication, Noboa referred to the from the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro (Colombia Humana, left), that he would not accept the results of the pre-counting of the 1st round.
“Unfortunately, being a bad loser is contagious. [Rafael] Correa managed to infect others in the region. Successes in the second round. The Colombian people need real change”, stated Noboa.
Flávio Bolsonaro said that “the strength demonstrated at the polls by @ABDELAESPRIELLA shows that millions of Colombians want more security, freedom, prosperity and respect for the values that support family and democracy”.
María Corina congratulated the Colombian people for “an exemplary electoral day”. He said that Venezuelans need “a strong and united Colombia to together dismantle the criminal networks and communism that have brought so much pain and misery to our people”.
