Vienna – Two and a half years after its introduction, the two millionth copy of the passport in the new design has now been issued. At a press conference on the occasion on Tuesday, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) said that the main aim of the redesign was to increase the security of the document and that it had succeeded. “Attempts were made to ‘crack’ the passport five times. They all failed miserably,” said Karner, referring to the security against forgery.
