ICNF guarantees continuity of management of the National Iberian Lynx Reproduction Center

The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) awarded an acquisition of services to the current management company of the National Center for the Reproduction of the Iberian Lynx (CNRLI), in Silves, ensuring the continuity of the technical-scientific management of the infrastructure and the conservation program for the species in Portugal.

The now formalized contract covers the operationalization of the CNRLI, the Iberian Lynx Training and Recovery Complex (CTRLI) and field support associated with the Conservation and Reintroduction Program of the species in the national territory.

The contract will last 14 months and will ensure the continuity of operations in a period considered particularly important for the monitoring and well-being of the offspring that will be born in 2027. The provision of services also includes the preparation of a proposal for a future management model for the center.

Conservation program maintains internationally recognized results

The ICNF recalls that the National Iberian Lynx Reproduction Center is part of an Iberian conservation strategy developed over several decades, in conjunction with scientific, institutional and international partners.

According to the institute, this joint work made it possible to achieve historic results in the recovery of the Iberian lynx, currently considered one of the most successful cases in nature conservation at an international level.

New action plan and financing secured until 2037

The organization also reinforces its commitment to the continuity of the Iberian Lynx Reproduction and Reintroduction Program in Portugal, highlighting the implementation of the new Action Plan for the Conservation of the Iberian Lynx in Portugal (PACLIP 2026-2030).

The project also highlights the renewal of the partnership with the company Águas do Algarve, which guarantees financing for the project until 2037, contributing to the stability and sustainability of the species’ conservation actions.

The institute guarantees that it will continue to work in close collaboration with the national and international partners involved in the project, promoting the involvement of all stakeholders who have contributed to the success of the program and to the preservation of the Iberian lynx in Portugal.
