In Lisbon, Kassab ensures Caiado’s candidacy and calls for an end to amendments – 06/01/2026 – Politics

president of and main driver of an attempt at a third way in the next presidential elections, defended the mixed district vote, transparency in all spheres of government and a reform in the system of parliamentary amendments during a lecture at the Forum of , this Monday (1st).

In a panel on the federative pact, Kassab differed from the other members of the panel due to his assertiveness. “I think the absence of this discussion is becoming very expensive for Brazil”, said the “political genius”, one of the many laudatory descriptions he received from his colleagues in the session.

Hours earlier, upon arriving early for the opening of the event, led by the dean of , , 14 years ago in the capital of São Paulo, Kassab was still dressed as an organizer of the alternative to the candidacies of Luiz Inácio da Silva and .

“I can tell you that there will be an increasingly vigorous party project that will seek to lead to becoming President of the Republic”, declared Kassab when asked about the party’s internal movement to transform him into a vice candidate, which began over the weekend.

“I say again that, for a party president, to be remembered when choosing candidates for a majority position, is a very great honor. But it is at the right time that we will choose”, he declared, repeating the content of a previous statement on the subject on social media.

PSD members try to block the movement for an alliance that would have (Novo) as the head of the ticket. “The priority is to strengthen Ronaldo Caiado’s candidacy,” he stated, repeating his candidate’s full name.

Asked if the bridges with Lula and him were still standing, despite his own candidacy, Kassab stated that his bridge “is with voters, and that bridge leads to a single path, which is Ronaldo Caiado’s candidacy”.

When commenting on Flávio Bolsonaro’s candidacy after the Dark Horse case was revealed, the PSD president preferred to be more evasive. “It’s very difficult to talk about other candidates, right? I’m always very careful. We have an electoral process.”

On the stage in the auditorium of the rectory of the University of Lisbon, however, Kassab was emphatic in relation to the recipe that would, in his opinion, reestablish the federative pact in the country. In addition to the mixed district vote, which he learned from Delfim Netto, “my advisor on this issue”, Kassab defended the transparency of the actions of all spheres of government. “If we can make all Powers available to Brazilian society, all our actions with online transparency, we will have a calmer country. People will better understand what is happening, what the debates are, what the reasons are. They will feel more welcomed in their representations”, said the former mayor of São Paulo.

Kassab was also the first and even only guest on the first day of the forum to speak about the Judiciary crisis. To refute it. He declared, however, that he was in favor not of a mandate for judges, but of a minimum age for the selection of civil servants. “It’s a mandate, but it’s a mandate that starts later and, as a result, the relationship with society becomes much more soluble”, he declared.

Finally, he cited his third pillar for institutional reform in the country, a review of the functioning of parliamentary amendments. “As it stands, it’s not possible,” he declared, using São Paulo as an example, which received the amount of R$60 billion, or something like “two metro lines per year”, in projects without federal coordination.

Participating in the same panel, the former senator also preached that a change in the amendment system was necessary. He considered, however, that the country’s polarization made Brazil an “irreformable” country.
