White House Correspondents’ Dinner will be July 24 after shooting

The White House Correspondents’ Association’s annual dinner will be held on July 24, the organization said Tuesday, nearly three months after it was postponed due to a shooting.

The after a suspect broke into a security checkpoint and fired a shotgun near where the White House correspondents’ dinner was taking place on April 25, attended by United States President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Shooter pleads not guilty

O pleaded not guilty to all charges on May 11.

Cole Tomas Allen, 31, did not speak in court as his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

The charges include attempted assassination of the president, assault on a federal agent and illegal possession of firearms.

Prosecutors allege Allen fired a shotgun at a U.S. Secret Service agent and stormed a security checkpoint in a foiled attack on Trump and other members of his administration at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Allen was wearing an orange jumpsuit and was handcuffed at the waist during the brief hearing.

It was his first appearance in Washington federal court before the judge who will preside over the remainder of the case, U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden.

The hearing came a week after another judge apologized to Allen for the treatment he received at a local Washington, D.C. jail, which included being placed on suicide precautions and isolated from other inmates.
