Shortly before, a security camera caught two men tampering with the same structure
One woman fell with her entire body into a manhole in the Maracanã neighborhood, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, on Sunday morning (31), after the lid gave way. A security camera recorded the accident.
It was around 7:40 am when the woman got off a motorcycle and, as she walked along the sidewalk, on her way to work, stepped on the lid and disappeared. The case was on Rua Oto de Alencar, in front of a school.
Shortly before, around 2 am, the same camera had already caught two men messing with the structure’s lid. City hall reported suspected attempted theft.
The motorcyclist who had left her at the scene saw the movement and went to help her. The Fire Department was called and she was taken to the Andaraí Federal Hospital with some injuries..
Firefighters used special rescue equipment at height to reach her inside the manhole and remove her. She had to be immobilized to be taken to the hospital. The health situation requires that she remains under medical observation due to injuries and injuries identified in the head and arms region.
