The horseshoe snake actually likes it dry. At least it occurs primarily in rocky, dry regions of the Iberian Peninsula and northwest Africa. But in recent years it has also been observed several times in the water: Some specimens apparently swim from one island to the next in the Balearic Islands, as videos and now also a scientific study in a specialist journal show Ecology document. At least 14 verified sightings of horseshoe snakes in the open sea have been recorded around Ibiza.
