The Ministry of Education continues to support schools in providing quality educational publications. For the 2026/2027 school year, schools will have more than 28 million euros available for textbooks and workbooks. TASR informed the Department of Communication and Marketing of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth (MŠVVaM) about this.
At the same time, the Ministry published the methodology for the contribution to educational publications from the state budget, based on which schools will receive financial resources in the coming days. At the same time, the department ensures the distribution of textbooks for the new curriculum, which schools have ordered through the central system.
“Quality education cannot do without quality educational materials. We have known for a long time that the needs of schools are higher than the amount of funds that were allocated for these purposes in the past. Therefore, this year we are supporting schools not only with a contribution from the state budget, but also with additional investments from the renewal plan intended for a new curriculum that will be focused on the individual needs of schools.” said Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD).
The contribution to educational publications has been around EUR 15 million per year for a long time. Last year it was increased to 18 million euros. This year, 13.5 million euros have been allocated from the state budget, but at the same time schools are getting another 15 million euros for textbooks for the new curriculum from the renewal plan. The grant for educational publications from the state budget is intended for kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and schools for children and students with disabilities or giftedness, and schools can use it to purchase publications from the approved list of the Ministry of Education.
What is new is that the contribution to educational publications is being extended to kindergartens for the first time. Kindergartens and kindergartens for children with disabilities will receive financial resources for workbooks for children for whom pre-primary education is compulsory. The contribution to schools will be determined according to the number of children and pupils registered as of September 15, 2025 and according to the set amount of the contribution per child or pupil. Schools can check the specific amount of allocated funds on the website of the Ministry of Education.
Another form of support is the central purchase of educational publications for schools involved in curriculum reform, financed from the recovery plan. Primary schools and schools for pupils with special educational needs could be managed through the central system order educational publications with a certificate issued according to the new curriculum. 15 million euros are allocated for this purpose.
The Ministry recommended schools to use the contribution from the state budget as a priority for the needs of higher gradeswhile textbooks for lower grades can be provided by schools to a greater extent through the renewal plan. As part of the first round of public procurement, ten contracts with suppliers have been concluded so far. They gradually distribute educational publications to schools.
In providing textbooks for the new curriculum, the Ministry is based on the principle that the choice of specific titles remains in the hands of schools and teachers, while the state takes over the process of public procurement, purchasing and administration. The goal is to enable schools to work with modern textbooks and at the same time relieve them of the complex administration associated with securing them.
At the same time, the Ministry emphasizes that the success of the curriculum reform depends not only on changes in educational programs, but also on the availability of quality educational materials directly in the classrooms. “If we want the new curriculum to actually reach the classrooms, we must provide modern and high-quality textbooks. This system will make it possible – faster, cheaper and without unnecessary bureaucracy.” added the Minister of Education.
By combining the contribution from the state budget and the central purchase of textbooks for the new curriculum, the ministry ensures that schools entered the new school year better prepared and so that quality educational materials reach as many children and pupils as possible.
