Trump declares support for Abelardo de la Espriella for Colombian presidency

The far-right candidate will compete in the second round with Petro’s sponsorship

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, declared this Tuesday (2) support for lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella already Colombia’s presidential election. Through publication in Truth Social, the Republican praised the far-right candidate and said that the Colombian election is “important” for the future of the country on-American and for the relationship between Washington and Bogotá.

“As president, Abelardo would be enormously successful in leading Colombia toward economic growth, creating jobs, promoting trade, combating illegal immigration, cracking down on crime and drugs, and restoring law and order,” Trump wrote.

The Republican also called a “radical left Marxist” the senator Ivan Cepeda, sponsored by the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro. Or parley will face Espriella no.

“Due to his enormous achievements in life and his personal political support, it is an honor to grant Abelardo my full and unrestricted support. ‘El Tigre’ Abelardo de la Espriella will not leave the wonderful people of Colombia,” said the Republican.

Trump still congratulated the lawyer by the result of the first round. With 100% of the ballots counted, Espirella received 43.74% of the votes against 40.90% of Cepeda.
