Ukraine launched more than 350 drones against Russia last night, in an attack that included Moscow, Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region, as reported today by the Russian Ministry of Defense and local authorities.
“During last night, anti-aircraft defenses intercepted and annihilated 354 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones” over fifteen Russian regions, the annexed Crimean peninsula and the Sea of Azov, the Russian military command reported on MAX.
According to the press service of the Saint Petersburg Government, in the early hours of today “several critical infrastructures in the Kronshadt, Kirov and Krasnoselsky districts were attacked by Ukrainian Nazi drones.”
“Several targets were damaged. Work is currently underway to alleviate the consequences. Several people were injured. There are no deaths,” the authorities added without giving details.
Advanced command post in St. Petersburg
The Government of Saint Petersburg added that the governor of the former tsarist capital, Alexandr Beglov, created a command post to deal with this situation. In the Leningrad region, which surrounds Saint Petersburg, and has been the victim of attacks against its port terminals and refineries in recent months, 59 drones were shot down last night, according to local governor Alexandr Drozdenko on MAX.
St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo International Airport was forced to pause its work, causing a delay of more than two hours for at least 29 flights. Another nine were diverted to other reserve airports, according to the air terminal’s press service.
For his part, the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, reported the downing of 22 drones that were heading to the Russian capital. According to EFE, several explosions could be heard south of Moscow on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. The Moscow airports of Vnukovo and Domodedovo, in the south of the capital, interrupted their operations twice throughout the night.
In response to the massive Russian attack
This Ukrainian attack occurred just 24 hours after the massive Russian attack with missiles and drones against companies in the Ukrainian military industrial complex and critical infrastructure in kyiv and six other regions of Ukraine carried out in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Ukrainian Air Force indicated in its morning report that it was one of the most massive attacks of the entire war, in which Russia used 73 missiles of different types, including 33 ballistic types, and 656 long-distance drones.
