Flexibility is not very common in Austria compared to other European countries. Just think of rigid regulations regarding shop opening times. But things are different in the job market. The regime here is actually one of the most liberal in Europe. With a few exceptions (older people), companies can terminate employees easily and without additional costs and, conversely, employees can easily separate from their employers. This ensures a high turnover: calculated over the course of a year, the AMS looks after more than 900,000 people. The vast majority only stay there for a short time and quickly find new work. So the system works well because it brings supply and demand together quickly.
