With 181 votes, the country will hold a mandate from 2027 to 2029 in the body responsible for coordinating sustainable development goals
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Thursday (4) that the Brazil was elected to join the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The mandate will be exercised between 2027 e 2029.
The election took place on Tuesday (4). Brazil received 181 votes representatives of the countries that make up the organization.
In the assessment of Brazilian diplomacy, the election demonstrates the country’s importance on the international stage. “Brazil’s election reflects the importance attributed to the strategic role that the country has to play in ECOSOC, especially in reducing inequalities and promoting sustainable peace,” declared Itamaraty.
The council, which is made up of 54 members, is one of the main bodies of the United Nations (UN) and has the task of coordinate specialized agencies of the United Nationsformulating recommendations on topics involving international trade, development, human rights, the status of women, science and technology, among others.
The recommendations are known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
