FIFA cancels free tickets and demands payment after system error

FIFA canceled the World Cup tickets of around 60 fans who managed to buy them for free by mistake, due to an error on the website, and is now demanding a full refund.

Affected fans were notified on Wednesday about the tickets that were “distributed free of charge (0 USD) due to a during the checkout process”, FIFA said on X.

Tickets requested by these fans remain reserved, and affected fans have been asked to make payments. FIFA regrets the error and any inconvenience caused.”

It was the latest setback in the controversial ticket sales process for the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Last week, the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey said they had issued a subpoena to FIFA regarding its , amid concerns over the location of fans’ seats at the World Cup.

The tournament, with the participation of 48 teams, will be held from June 11th to July 19th.
