Operation Hidden Needle, from the São Paulo Civil Police, investigates an alleged fraud scheme illegal import of counterfeit versions of the Mounjaro slimming pen, brought from Paraguay and resold clandestinely in São Roqueabout 60 kilometers from the capital of São Paulo. The investigation targets the head of the Administrative Services Division from São Roque City Hall, Ana Laura Esquitini, and her husband, Luciano do Espírito Santo, legislative coordinator of the city’s City Council.

Ana Laura was caught in the act on Monday, (1st), after investigators found 22 ampoules of tirzepatidea substance used in weight loss medications. She was released the same day after bail payment of R$3,000.

According to the Civil Police, the investigation began after anonymous complaints indicated that the couple sold medicines containing tirzepatide through messaging apps and in-person contacts, with deliveries in São Roque and the region.

Investigators say the products were purchased in Paraguay, entered Brazil irregularly and were stored at the couple’s residence, in Jardim Trindade.

According to the police, the investigations gathered evidence of the sale of medicines, including information on prices, payment methods, use of card machines and distribution of products to third parties.

During the execution of the warrants, the police seized, in addition to the 22 ampoules of tirzepatide, cell phones, syringes, packaging and a card machine.

In a statement, the city of São Roque reported that it is monitoring the case and awaits the conclusion of the investigations. “Based on the results of the investigations, the Municipal Administration will evaluate the adoption of appropriate administrative measures, if necessary,” he said.

In testimony, Ana Laura told investigators that she started using the medications about a year ago on medical advice, after reaching 105 kilos.

She said that she usually travels to Paraguay to buy cosmetics and perfumes for resale and admitted having purchased ampoules of the substance in the neighboring countrywithout a medical prescription, for your own use and that of your husband. Also acknowledged having sold some units for friends and acquaintances.

Luciano told the police that his partner started treatment after facing obesity problems and considering bariatric surgery. According to him, the couple travels to Paraguay approximately every three months to buy perfumes and cosmetics and brought, on the last trip, medicines with tirzepatide intended for the use of both.
