A 25-year-old Pole did not survive the fall in the Bradavice area of the High Tatras. The Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) reported that they received information about his disappearance from colleagues from Poland in the early evening of Saturday (June 6). He climbed to the top himself, from where he sent a photo to family members. However, the next contact was no longer successful.
Rescuers from the Regional Center of the HZS Vysoké Tatry and from the Avalanche Prevention and Education Center of the HZS went on a ground search operation. They also searched the selected location with the help of an unmanned aircraft with a special search device. However, the situation was complicated by thick fog.
“In cooperation with the Police Force (PZ), an inspection of the parking lots at possible starting points for the hike was also carried out. The Central Operations Center of the operational department of the Presidium of the PZ was also asked to cooperate in ascertaining operational and location data,” the mountain rescuers add. The car of the wanted Pole was found in the parking lot in Tatranská Polianka.
On Sunday in the morning, mountain rescuers finally located the missing person in Kvetnicov žlab. “Unfortunately, after an approximately 300-meter fall, he suffered injuries incompatible with life. The remains were then airlifted to Starý Smokovec, where they were handed over to members of the PZ“, adds HZS.
