Bruno Guimarães gave an interview on Monday afternoon (8) at The Ridge hotel, in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, where the Brazilian team for the World Cup is based, and made it clear that he approves of Lucas Paquetá remaining in midfield.
Although he made the reservation that “it’s the manager’s decision”, referring to coach Carlo Ancelotti, the midfielder demonstrated his preference for the formation adopted in the 2-1 victory over Egypt, in Cleveland, last Saturday (6), in relation to the team selected in the 6-2 victory over Panama, in Rio de Janeiro, the previous Sunday (31).
“In our dynamic, having an extra player in the middle was very interesting. There was more of a one-two dynamic, we had chances to score more goals, we failed to take advantage”, said Guimarães, who also highlighted the rapport he has with Paquetá from the time he was his teammate at Lyon.
Against Panama, the team played with just two midfield men, Casemiro and Guimarães himself, with four attackers. In the friendly against Egypt, Paquetá played the role of scoring on the right side of the field, but, when he had the ball, he became a third player in the middle.
“To attack, the 4-2-4 gives you more options, but sometimes there’s no longer that midfielder to make the ball reach, it’s a more direct game. I think it depends a lot on the characteristics of the game”, he stated, before noting that the solid marking was greater in the second friendly.
