Exit poll: Keiko Fujimori leads 2nd round in Peru with 50.7%

An exit poll by the Ipsos institute shows that Keiko Fujimori leads Peru’s presidential election with 50,7% of votes, while Roberto Sanchez appears in second place, with 49,3%.

The first official results from the Peruvian electoral authority, ONPE, are expected in the next few hours, while the full count is expected to take a few days.

Fujimori has already run for President in four elections, most recently in 2021, when she was defeated by Pedro Castillo by just over 45 thousand votes — a difference of just 0.2%.

This Sunday’s vote comes after the , held in April, in which Fujimori leaned on the legacy of his father, , who governed Peru from 1990 to 2000 before being arrested for human rights violations.

The election takes place amid a scenario of political instability. The Peruvian Congress has removed three presidents in the last five years, and the turbulent first round was marked by accusations of fraud and threats of protests from both sides of the dispute.
