Israel and Iran exchanged fire this Monday. The new attacks, including an attack on an Iranian petrochemical complex, came hours after Donald Trump called on Israel not to carry out new attacks.

The Israeli Army also announced that it had intercepted, this morning, a missile launched from Yemen. The launch occurred about an hour and a half after Israel claimed to have attacked “military targets” in western and central Iran, in response to attacks by the Islamic Republic and in the context of escalating tensions in the region.

According to , Tehran has insisted that any agreement to definitively end the war must also end the conflict in Lebanon, where Israel has been conducting a military campaign against the Hezbollah movement, a movement supported by Iran.

“The Israeli Air Force struck several targets at the Mahshahr petrochemical complex,” the reports confirmed. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), in a statement.

Trump has called for restraint with both the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahuas well as the Iranian authorities. Still, Israel accused Tehran of having made a “serious mistake”.

“I’m the one in charge. I’m the one in charge of everything. He’s not the one in charge,” Trump said in an interview with Financial Timesreferring to Netanyahu.

On Sunday, Netanyahu’s office announced that the army had “attacked a military command center in Dahiyeh neighborhoodin Beirut, in response to Hezbollah firing on Israeli territory.”

Israel had warned that it would attack the area if Hezbollah launched attacks against the north of the country. Subsequently, the Iranian-backed group confirmed that it had launched missiles and drones against two Israeli army barracks during the early hours of Sunday.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibafpresident of the Iranian parliament and main negotiator in the talks with Washington, accused the United States of having given “green light” to the attack in Beirut, stating that the American and Israeli targets were now “legitimate targets“.

Trump also stated that Israel and Iran must immediately stop the “attacks”, in a publication in Truth Social.

These events occurred after weeks of negotiations aimed at putting an end to the war triggered by the US and Israeli attacks against Iran on February 28. It was also the first major escalation since the ceasefire announced April 8with Hezbollah launching new attacks in northern Israel.
