Value handled in retail should total R$2.84 billion; 1 year ago it was R$2.77 billion, according to CNC data
Retail sales for Valentine’s Day, celebrated on Friday (June 12, 2026), are expected to total R$2.84 billion after inflation. The data comes from the (National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism) and was released this Monday (June 8). Here’s the (763 kB – PDF).
The value represents an increase of 2.5% compared to R$2.77 billion in 2025. According to the CNC, Valentine’s Day is the 6th most important commemorative date for retail in terms of financial transactions.
The research shows that the slightly higher result than in 2025 is linked to the dynamism of the job market. The unemployment rate in Brazil in the 1st quarter of the year, according to data from IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). The rate is the lowest ever recorded for a quarter ending in March since the beginning of the historical series, in 2012.
The president of the CNC-Sesc-Senac System, José Roberto Tadros, highlights the importance of the date for retail, but gives guidance in line with the current scenario. “For the consumer, who even as an employee still experiences monetary constraints due to high interest rates, it is best to research well and innovate when choosing a gift for this celebration”he states.
The clothing, footwear and accessories sector is expected to dominate sales on Valentine’s Day, with a volume of R$1.12 billion, equivalent to almost 40% of the total expected for the date.
In 2nd place should come the domestic utilities and electronics sector, with R$875 million. The pharmacies, perfumeries and cosmetics segment closes the top 3, with R$ 346 million.

The typical basket of goods and services most consumed on that date registered an average increase of 5.8% in 2026. The highest variations were in the prices of chocolates (+22.7%), jewelry and costume jewelry (+20.0%) and flowers (+11.3%). On the other hand, alcoholic beverages (-1.0%) and telephone devices (-0.7%) tend to show a slight drop in relation to the prices charged on the same date in 2025.
