The Algarve project “Viagem ao Coração da Alfarroba”, by Industrial Farense, Lda., was distinguished as the winner of the “Tourism & Carob and Almond” category in the final of the Innovative Projects and Activities Competition – INOVA ALGARVE + DIVERSIFICAR, promoted by NERA.
In addition to the distinction, the project received a cash prize of 2,500 euros, awarded during the conference dedicated to the carob and almond sector.
Presented by Carlos Moura, the initiative stood out for creating an industrial tourism experience dedicated to one of the most emblematic agri-food sectors in the Algarve.
According to NERA, the “Journey to the Heart of Carob” project proposes guided visits to production units, allowing visitors to learn about the trajectory of carob, from transformation to the various products derived from it.
Industrial tourism values endogenous resources in the Algarve
The initiative aims to value carob as an endogenous resource, promote local producers and companies and contribute to the diversification of the regional tourist offer.
The INOVA ALGARVE + DIVERSIFICAR conference cycle continues on June 18th, with a session dedicated to the medronho sector, continuing the work of valuing the region’s strategic sectors and endogenous resources.
After the summer break, the initiative will return with new conferences focused on Plants and Flowers, Sea Economy, Geological Resources and Citrus Fruits.
Participation is free, subject to prior registration, with the complete program and the calendar of upcoming sessions available on the INOVA ALGARVE project website.
The initiative is organized by, in partnership with Algarve Evolution, KIPT Association, CCDR Algarve, Algarve Tourism Region, Tertúlia Algarvia and University of Algarve, within the scope of the INOVA ALGARVE 3.0 Project, co-financed by the Algarve 2030 Regional Program | Portugal 2030.
