Justice Yearbook shows a positive balance of 3.8 million in 2025; in 2024, the difference had been 5 million
The Brazilian Judiciary resolved more cases than it received for the 2nd year in a row, according to data from the Brazilian Justice Yearbook. In 2025, 44.5 million cases were resolved compared to 40.7 million new cases. The difference was 3.8 million.
The data are from the Brazil 2026 Justice Yearbook, which will be released this Wednesday (June 10, 2026), at 5:30 pm, at the (Supreme Federal Court). The president of the Court, minister, will participate in the event.
The previous edition of the yearbook had registered 39 million new cases and 44 million decisions in 2024. Compared to 2025, the volume of new cases rose by 1.7 million, while the total number of resolved cases grew by 500 thousand.
As a result, the positive balance of the Judiciary fell from 5 million in 2024 to 3.8 million in 2025. Even so, the data shows that the Justice system maintained the capacity to close more cases than it received.
According to the Brazil 2026 Justice Yearbook, the resolution rate was 110% in 2025. The index represents the relationship between the total number of cases resolved and the number of new actions received in the year.
The publication is produced by the electronic magazine ConJurwith support from FAAP (Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado), and reaches its 20th edition. The material brings together data on the functioning of Brazilian Justice and analyzes of decisions made by higher courts.
WHAT IS THE YEARBOOK
The 20th edition brings a retrospective of the institutional, legal and social changes in the Justice system over the last two decades. It also dedicates space to bodies such as the (Attorney General’s Office), the (Advocacy General of the Union), the (Brazilian Bar Association), the (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) and the (Administrative Council for Tax Appeals).
