The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday (10) that Iran will have to “pay the price” for taking a long time to reach an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East, amid a new military escalation between Washington and Tehran.
In a publication in Truth Social, Trump declared that the Iranian military is “completely and utterly destroyed” and classified the country as “all talk and no action”. “They took too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price,” he wrote. The Republican also stated that “the bully of the Middle East is dead”, in reference to Iran.
The statement comes after the United States carried out bombings against Iranian targets during the night. According to the American military Central Command (Centcom), the attacks targeted air defense systems, ground control stations and surveillance radar. Washington said the operation was a proportionate response to recent attacks on American forces and commercial vessels transiting the region.
Tehran responded by launching attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, countries that host US bases. Local authorities reported having intercepted the projectiles. The Iranian government classified the American action as a “violation of its sovereignty” and reiterated its right to respond militarily.
The new round of hostilities comes a day after that of the US Army near the Strait of Hormuz. According to American authorities, the aircraft collided with an Iranian drone, which was denied by Iran. The two pilots were rescued without injuries.
