Health facilities admitted nine people for treatment after inhaling fumes from the fire, said the spokesperson of the Civil Guard. The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on the third floor of a residential building in the tourist center of Magaluf. Residents unsuccessfully tried to extinguish the fire, but it spread to the rest of the building. Authorities evacuated more than 12 people.
The flames were extinguished approximately two hours later. The nationalities of the victims were not immediately known. The Civil Guard clarified that it is already investigating the cause of the fire.
Magaluf is one of the favorite destinations of British and German tourists for its beaches and nightlife. The area is located 22 kilometers from the capital of the Mediterranean archipelago, Palma de Mallorca.
