After the exchange of letters between the senator () and the Secretary of State of , , became public, deputy Rogério Correia (-MG) filed a project that criminalizes the crime of treason against the country.
The proposal includes the new crime in the Penal Code and criminalizes any act that “the territorial integrity, security of the State or the strategic interests of the country”.

The proposal is an immediate reaction to Flávio’s stance, who was willing to make a transition team available to Washington if he is elected in October.
The text also criminalizes the act of negotiating, ceding or facilitating the delivery of natural resources or national wealth to foreign interests.
The proposal also includes in the Penal Code the act that facilitates foreign interference in the Brazilian electoral process.
The deputy’s concern focuses on the targets of greed in several countries, and comes after statements that suggest possible intervention in Brazil.
“Threats to national sovereignty are no longer limited to armed conflicts or territorial invasions, but also manifest themselves through political, economic and diplomatic articulations aimed at weakening the Brazilian State, compromising its decision-making autonomy or subjecting national interests to foreign agendas”, says the deputy when justifying the project.
The project stipulates a sentence of up to 20 years for anyone who commits the crime of treason against the country.
