The financial aspect has changed the way the Federal Police investigates crimes, according to Ricardo Saadi, president of COAF (Financial Activities Control Council), to CNN Brasil this Wednesday (1st).
“Investigations have changed their focus in recent years. In the past, they sought the authorship and materiality of whoever carried out the crime. Today, it is understood that the financial aspect has become fundamental to understanding the path of the crime”, explained Saadi.
According to him, by investigating goods and valuables, for example, and blocking these items, the action discourages crime. “Financial information is essential in the fight against organized crime,” he said.
The president also highlights that, although Coaf has access to suspicious movements, this is not done comprehensively.
“What is available to Coaf are exclusively suspicious operations reported by institutions”, he highlighted.
Saadi was live on CNN Brasil to also comment on the opening of the council’s office in São Paulo.
The president confirmed the opening of two more offices outside Brasília – where the headquarters is located -, in Rio de Janeiro and Foz do Iguaçu.
“We wanted to be in São Paulo because of its economic relevance and we are going there. In Foz, the motivation was due to it”, he explained.
