US begins new wave of attacks on Iran on Trump’s orders

The United States began attacks on “multiple targets” in Iran this Wednesday (10), in a new military escalation in the Middle East. The offensive was confirmed by the US Central Command (Centcom), which claimed to have acted on orders from President Donald Trump.

The Tasnim agency, linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, said the United States attacked a petrochemical plant in the South Pars gas field in Asalouyeh. Earlier, Iranian state TV had reported that air defense in the region of the energy complex had been activated.

Iranian state media also reported several explosions in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, in the vicinity of an airport and an air base.

Markets reacted quickly to the attacks. New York stock futures opened lower on Wednesday night. Futures contracts for the S&P 500 fell 0.4%, while those for the Nasdaq 100 fell 0.6%. Those linked to the Dow Jones lost 147 points, or 0.3%.

In the oil market, the movement was opposite: WTI increased 2%, close to US$92 per barrel, and Brent rose 3.88%, to US$95, reflecting fears of greater instability in the region.

Earlier, Trump had stated that the US would attack the Persian country “very hard” again this Wednesday. At an event at the White House, the president said that Washington wants Tehran to sign an agreement “that is meaningful and works”, but raised the tone of the threats.

“Yesterday we hit them hard, and today we’re going to hit them hard again,” Trump said. “We will attack them, and attack them very hard.”

The statements came hours after the Republican published, on his Truth Social network, that Iran had taken too long to negotiate and would now have to “pay the price”.

In response, the chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s national security committee, Ebrahim Azizi, wrote in a post on X that, “this time, the war will not be restricted to the region.”
