The arrival of the new harvest led to an increase in shipments, but the price of a bag fell compared to the same month in 2025
Brazil exported 3.089 million 60 kg bags of coffee in May 2026, an increase of 3.6% compared to the same month in 2025. The data are from the monthly statistical report of the (Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council). Here is the disclosure (PDF – 3 MB)
Despite the increase in volume shipped, foreign exchange revenue fell 16% in the annual comparison, pressured by the fall in the price of the commodity. The average price of a bag went from US$433.69 in May 2025 to US$350.04 in the same month in 2026 – a reduction of 19.3%.
From January to May, the country exported 14.745 million bags, a drop of 12.4% compared to the same period in 2025. Revenue in the period totaled US$5.552 billion, a drop of 14.6%.
According to Cecafé (Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council), May’s performance reflects the transition from the off-season to the arrival of the new harvest. The increase was mainly driven by the entry of canephora coffees – which begin to be harvested and sold before Arabica coffees.
In the year to 2026, however, the drop in exports still reflects a smaller harvest and the high comparison base of 2025, when shipments were larger, according to the entity.
EXPECTATIONS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR
For the coming months, Cecafé projects an increase in shipments, mainly in the 2nd half, with the advance of the Arabica harvest. The entity states that the climate was favorable in most of the coffee belt, which should result in good quality, high productivity and greater volume available for export.
The entity, however, points out risks for the sector. Among them are geopolitical tensions, logistical gaps in Brazilian ports and uncertainties about United States trade policy. According to Cecafé, the war in the Middle East has made sea freight costs more expensive for importers of Brazilian coffee, while port bottlenecks generate losses and delays in shipments.
