The president of the United States, Donald Trump, once again raised his tone against Iran this Friday, the 12th, by accusing Tehran of publishing false information about the terms of a possible agreement to end the conflict between the two countries.
In a publication in Truth Social, the republican stated that the details presented by Iranian authorities to the press “have nothing to do” with the understanding negotiated between the parties.
“The terms that Iran leaked to the fake news press have nothing to do with the terms that were agreed to in writing,” Trump wrote. According to him, Iranian statements about an agreement are “weak and pathetic” and “have no relation to the truth”. The president did not explain, in the publication, what the alleged false terms he was referring to were.
Trump also accused Iran of acting in bad faith in the negotiations. “With them, there is no negotiation in good faith,” he declared.
The demonstration comes after Iran denied that the memorandum of understanding had already been concluded. Earlier, the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) and sources linked to Tehran’s negotiating team stated that the text still depends on internal approval and denied reports that the signing would take place on Sunday, in Geneva. The state agency IRNA also stated that the draft under discussion does not foresee any Iranian concession on control of the Strait of Hormuz nor a return to pre-war conditions.
The American president also criticized an alleged drone attack on Indian vessels leaving the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, the action was “completely repealed” and is “totally unacceptable”. The Republican did not provide additional details about the incident or formally attribute responsibility to the Iranian government.
On Thursday, the 11th, Trump stated that the final points of an agreement had already been approved by all parties involved and announced the cancellation of planned military attacks against Iran. Iranian authorities have, since then, denied that there is a definitive understanding or a timetable for signing any agreement.
