The President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party), and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, stated, this Friday (June 12, 2026), that negotiations have progressed and that an agreement is close.
On his official X account, Araghchi what “The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer. While we await its finalization, the media should refrain from speculating on its contents. In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in a timely manner”.

So far, neither the US nor Iran have published official documents on what the terms of the deal will be, but international media have received contradictory reports.
Iranian news outlets such as the agency even reported that Iranian government officials stated that the country would not submit to US conditions and demands.

The minister also assured that his country would not accept closing its nuclear program, and that “for Tehran, the only viable solution for its stockpile of highly enriched uranium is dilution of the material”.
Also according to the Reuterssources on both sides stated that the proposed memorandum of understanding would feature the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. Negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, one of the main points of the war, would be delayed.
Reports from Western, Pakistani and Iranian sources have pointed to terms that would favor Iran. The information is that Trump would apparently achieve little beyond the reopening of the strait.

In recent days, the US and Iran have alternated announcements of military attacks and progress in negotiations for an agreement. Understand the sequence of events:
