The president (PT) would hold this Friday (12) the first meeting with members of the government to decide on the name of new members of the Judiciary since the attorney general of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, was rejected.
There are 29 vacancies on the PT’s table, most of them in regional electoral courts, which should be the president’s priority given the proximity of the electoral campaign. He will have to decide between the names indicated in triple lists.
The order would take place in a meeting with the special secretary for Legal Affairs (SAJ) of the Civil House, Marcelo Weick. Ministers Miriam Belchior (Civil House), Messias (AGU), José Guimarães (Secretariat of Institutional Relations) and Wellington Lima e Silva (Justice and Public Security) also give their opinions.
However, due to other events on the agenda, such as a ceremony for Minha Casa Minha Vida Rural e Entidades, the meeting ended up being postponed and will only take place when the PT member returns from his trip to the G7, a group of the seven richest economies in the country.
Three vacancies in federal regional courts are also up for grabs, but the most important is a triple list for minister of the (Superior Labor Court).
Several of the PT’s allies have mobilized to convince him to nominate their favorites. The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), together with other politicians from Paraíba for choosing judge Herminegilda Leite Machado, from the TRT (Regional Labor Court) of the 13th Region (based in Paraíba).
The national president of the PSB and former mayor of Recife, sought out government ministers to request the appointment of judge Sergio Torres Teixeira, from the TRT of the 6th Region (with jurisdiction in Pernambuco).
Former governor of Pará and influential in the MDB, Helder Barbalho has defended with the government the choice of judge Maria de Nazaré Medeiros Rocha, from the TRT of the 8th Region (Pará and Amapá). One of the arguments is to have a minister from the Northern region of the country, a region that is not represented at the top of the Labor Court.
The president of , (-AP), did not actively participate in the campaign to elect Nazaré, according to parliamentarians. He has been with the since he acted for the rejection of Messiah for the .
The STF vacancy should not be deliberated this Friday, according to members of Palácio do Planalto. Lula has publicly said that he will resend Messiah’s nomination. The Senate’s internal regulations prohibit voting in the same year if the name has already been rejected.
