Turkey: Seizure of more than one ton of drugs worth 55 million euros at the border with Greece

More than a ton, which was hidden inside, was seized this week by the Turkish border with , the authorities announced.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Commerce, the cargo, whose market value is more than 55 million euros, was discovered at the border crossing in Ypsala (northwest Turkey) and contained mainly methamphetamine, heroin and raw opium.

Turkish customs did not immediately respond to AFP’s question about the origin of the drugs. According to the private news agencies DHA and IHA, the van had arrived from Iran.

The Turkish authorities have announced that in 2025 they seized a total of 33.6 tons of drugs with a market value of almost 840 million euros.
