Kansas City, the city chosen as England’s base during the World Cup, was hit by a tornado warning just hours after the England team arrived there.
The United States Weather Service issued a warning for residents to seek shelter because of a severe storm, with the possibility of winds of up to 129 km/h.
The sirens were activated on Saturday night (13), and authorities advised the population to avoid areas close to windows and stay in safe buildings.
“Seek shelter in a sturdy building, away from windows. Debris thrown by the wind can be fatal to anyone without protection,” said the weather warning.
According to British media outlets, England players were also advised to remain inside the facilities. A fan festival in the city was closed early as a safety measure.
